  • On June 20, 2012, a gunman opened fire on members of the audience during a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises," killing 12 and injuring 70 people. The crosses in the photo were placed as a temporary memorial on June 20, 2014, the second anniversary of the mass shooting. I learned of it during the late afternoon news broadcast and immediately drove to the site to make this photograph. It took some time to have a time when people were not in the area paying their respects. It is a solemn site.

  • This is one of the very early memorials I photographed. The angel, a wonderful work of art cut from a quarter-inch-thick piece of steel was taken sometime between when I took this photo in the fall and the next spring.
  • I love the straw in this photograph. The cross is no longer there. It was removed when the state widened the road.
  • This is a photo of the oldest memorial I have photographed. I've never been able to see this again with the lighting and resulting shadows. This cross no longer exists. It was replaced by someone who cared a couple of years ago.
