On June 20, 2012, a gunman opened fire on members of the audience during a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises," killing 12 and injuring 70 people. The crosses in the photo were placed as a temporary memorial on June 20, 2014, the second anniversary of the mass shooting. I learned of it during the late afternoon news broadcast and immediately drove to the site to make this photograph. It took some time to have a time when people were not in the area paying their respects. It is a solemn site.
