  • On June 20, 2012, a gunman opened fire on members of the audience during a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises," killing 12 and injuring 70 people. The crosses in the photo were placed as a temporary memorial on June 20, 2014, the second anniversary of the mass shooting. I learned of it during the late afternoon news broadcast and immediately drove to the site to make this photograph. It took some time to have a time when people were not in the area paying their respects. It is a solemn site.
  • This is a photograph of a memorial to the 64 passengers and four crew members aboard American Eagle Flight 4184 that crashed after flying into unknown icing conditions on Monday, October 31, 1994. The icing caused the loss of control and the plane crashed into a soybean field near Roselawn, Indiana, killing everyone on board.
  • Keroy Martinez passed from this world on a most beautiful stretch of road in New Mexico.

  • This is one of the very early memorials I photographed. The angel, a wonderful work of art cut from a quarter-inch-thick piece of steel was taken sometime between when I took this photo in the fall and the next spring.

  • This is a photo of the oldest memorial I have photographed. I've never been able to see this again with the lighting and resulting shadows. This cross no longer exists. It was replaced by someone who cared a couple of years ago.
